Summary of Saddlewood
Saddlewood or as it was known in older times Seddelwood is situate one
mile North West of Oldbury on the Hill it was once a separate manor and
was in the parish of Hawkesbury although now linked to Tresham it
consists of a handful of houses and is in effect a private park today.
The big house is quite magnificent its hallway having a double curved
stair and some impressive rooms it also has extensive stabling. it was
a farm house for 750 acres, In 1850 the Iles Family lived there
although this Daniel Iles came from South Cerney area Moses Iles my 4 X
Great Grandfather had previously lived there retiring from farming in
1837 after the death of his two elder sons.
The majority of the land surrounding Saddlewood belongs to the Beaufort
Estate the Manor was also known the as the Waiste it came under the
control of Hawkesbury Parish being part of the holdings of Pershore
Abbey until the dissolution of the monastries after which it came back
into the hands of Henry V111 who sold it sold it as part of Hawkesbury
parish to Sir Nicholas Botelier of Badminton arount 1563 he then sold
it to Arthur Crewe of Hillesley along with the manor of Hawkesbury in
1606 he inturn sold it again in 1626 when he sold Hawkesbury manor to
Sir Robert Jenkinson of Oxford
