THE Kings Arms, The Street GL9 1DT

The Kings Arms was built in 1652 as a coaching inn. In 1745 it was
leased out from the Beaufort estate for a period of one thousand years
at 6d. per annum. By 1891 it was owned by the Tetbury Brewery and had
an annual rateable value of £19.10s.0d. A reference in 1856 gives the
location as Oldbury on the Hill. After the acquisition of Cooks'
Tetbury Brewery by Stroud Brewery Company it became a 'Stroud House'.
It was a Whitbread village local until 1992 when it was sold as a free
house. Today the Kings Arms stocks an interesting selection of real
ales and in 1998 and 1999 it achieved the distinction of being
runner-up in the Gloucestershire Pub of the Year awards. Nigel and Jane
have established an annual tradition when they dress up in black bin
liners, sing, and serve rook pie!
