Ralph Bigland was the Garter Principal King of Arms he was very interested in Gloucestershire and produced two volumes covering all villages it is a great reference in a lot of cases the inscriptions can no longer be read or don’t exist his background of the Churches and Parish’s are quite detailed we are indebted to him for this great work. It is available in four volumes from Gloucester Record Office produced by the Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society
