St. MARY THE VIRGIN HAWKESBURY. GRAVESTONE INDEX 1999

Cross referenced, where possible, to 'Historical, Monumental & Genealogical Collections Relative to the County of Gloucester' by Ralph Bigland 1794. (Reprinted by Bristol and Gloucestershire Archaeological Society 1995. edited by Brian Frith. Gloucestershire record series; v. 8.) In which the full texts of the footnoted tombstones can be found.

Conventions used: brackets to indicate obscure or uncertain items, broken lines to indicate missing sections, underlining to indicate ligatured items - i.e. letters or numbers sharing a common stroke.
Asterisks * indicate items cross referenced with the survey carried out by Ralph Bigland, published 1794. A large number of items present in 1794 are now, inevitably, missing or unidentifiable. Interestingly, some monuments with dates prior to 1794 were not recorded at that time, possibly because they were erected some time after the events to which they relate.
